Approach and Methodology

Lawrence Jorgensen Architects is a professional practice that relies on a certain degree of flexibility in our approach to every project. Certain project types allow for a concise and abbreviated drawing development utilizing sheet specifications to best present the critical information. More traditional project types require a highly developed drawing set and book specifications as part of the project manual. We choose the best approach to a project and appropriately and thoroughly apply a tested methodology to ensure successful project development.

This success begins by understanding the wants, needs and process of our client.

As project needs dictate, the most appropriate consultants familiar with the requirements of our firm will be retained.

Unlike our approach, our method of delivering comprehensive project documents is more rigorous and proven. As with consultants, their early involvement depends upon the complexity of the project type. Lawrence Jorgensen Architects may involve structural, mechanical and electrical engineers as early in the design process as programming. With the wide range of construction types, locations and limitations, some systems need be discussed early in the decision making process. This should minimize technical roadblocks moving into subsequent phases. More traditionally, the structural, mechanical and electrical consultants are retained after the concept phase to assist in the construction document development. During the construction document phase Lawrence Jorgensen Architects will generally provide milestone submittals to the Client at roughly 35% and 95% design completion. The project size and complexity will determine if additional interim milestones would be appropriate in order to perform quality control reviews between all team members. Upon design completion the next step is to retain a contractor.

Construction contractors are an integral part of the project team, and as a valuable team member I strive to work towards the same goal as the contractor in delivering a quality project on time and on budget. As part of the design team, the general contractor will now take the lead, by submitting the completed design documents for Municipal Plan Review. The entire design team will assist in answering all questions arising during the Plan Review process in order to procure a building permit in a timely manner.
