Mixed Media:
From “Silver”ware Salmon with Wild Salmon on Parade to scrimshawed baleen medallion I designed and engraved; each an experimentation in media outside my comfort zone; each created for uniquely different reasons.
A Christmas decoration made of museum board to a bird feeder with tongue depressor shingle and solid surface “walls”, were each less about design than construction technique. My rendition of Unalaska Churches Bishop House was Alaska’s submittal to First Lady Laura Bush, while my Father is the lucky recipient of the scratch built bird feeder.

Wood:
My appreciation for wood began at an early age and continues today. Deriving projects from wood is my favorite leisure pursuit. When I carve; yellow cedar is the essential medium which I apply the Tlingit motifs I grew up around. The Lovebirds reflect one of my many attempts at interpreting Tlingit design, mostly thru the research of Bill Holm, while the crane is a replica of an artifact.
Designing and building small boxes is probably what I do most; they’re like little buildings.
My approach to furniture is much the same; like the birch and walnut armoire.
Sketching:
From the conveyance of an idea or the interpretation of a scene I understand the importance of sketching as part of my career skill set. Subject matter notwithstanding, sketching for me day-to-day is often more technical than artistic in nature.
From a Vancouver market to college campus or English Cathedral, to me each sketch represents snippets of my time within the context of a great experience.
